Multifocal IOLs

Multifocal Intra-Ocular Lenses (or IOLs) are lenses designed to clear the distorted vision caused by cataracts along with pre-existing nearsightedness, farsightedness and presbyopia.

Presbyopia is a condition that occurs around the age of 40, when we lose the ability to change the shape of the lens inside the eye. As this occurs, we become more and more dependent on reading glasses to see close objects.

Standard monofocal IOLs provide excellent vision at one point of focus, usually at a distance. However with the advanced technology of a multifocal IOL, you can now reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses and experience clear vision most of the time at all distances, near, intermediate and distance.

Below you can see the patient’s perspective of having the standard monofocal IOL on the left and a multifocal IOL on the right. Which lens you choose will determine how well you see without glasses after your cataract surgery.
