AcrySof® Monofocal Toric IOL

The Acrysof® Toric Intra-Ocular Lens (or IOL) is a monofocal lens designed to clear the distorted vision caused by cataracts along with pre-existing nearsightedness and farsightedness and astigmatism. Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or outer window of the eye is more curved in one direction than the other. This causes multiple points of focus and blurry vision.

If you have astigmatism and choose a standard monofocal IOL for your cataract surgery, you will still need to wear corrective lenses to see clearly. But if you elect to have the Acrysof Toric Monofocal IOL, it will treat your astigmatism and provide you excellent vision for one distance with much less need for glasses.  If you choose to see distance with these lenses, you would need glasses for near and could still have small distance prescription for glasses.  If you choose to see near with these lenses, you would need glasses for distance and could still have a small near prescription for glasses.

Below you can see a patient’s perspective of having the standard monofocal IOL on the left and the Acrysof Toric IOL on the right. Which lens you choose will determine how well you see after your cataract procedure.
