There are various types of intraocular lenses (IOLs) available that can correct the distorted vision caused by cataracts, as well as nearsightedness or farsightedness.
A standard monofocal IOL provides excellent vision at a single point of focus, typically for distance vision.
Aspheric monofocal IOLs can provide a sharper image with better contrast. Aspheric monofocal IOLs reduce the glare and halos around lights which can make driving safer.
Toric monofocal IOLs are also “aspheric” monofocal lenses that can eliminate nearsightedness, farsightedness along with astigmatism.
However, choosing a monofocal IOL to replace your cataract will usually require you to wear glasses or bifocals to see clearly at all distances.
